Village photo

Villages like this one are nestled all over the mountains. This was a rainy gloomy day, however many have set in darkness for years and years.

How to kill a Squirrel

Tim is standing next to "Spring's" son and grandsons. We witnessed a first as we arrived in their village. The little boy in the front along with a friend went down and scared a squirrel up to the road. The teenager in the red was waiting on the road with at least a twelve foot pole. When the squirrel fled across the road, he hit it with the stick and killed it. Squirrels are little and fast here. I couldn't believe it!

These folks live high up in the mountains, and have a cell phone attached to a pole on their porch. It is the only place where they can get phone reception!

Milk Maid Mother

The sweet older lady, "Spring" has claimed Tim and I as her children. Tim picked her and some other ladies up one day to give them a lift to the sheep pen to milk. As she got her milk jugs out of the back of the truck, she jokingly asked if the watermelon in the back of the truck was hers. Tim insisted that she take it, but she refused. Everytime we have passed through her village over the past several months we drop a watermelon off for their family. Last week our family made the trek up into the mountains to visit them for the last time before winter. Their village usually has two to three meters of snow, so we won't see her til spring.

Funnel Cake

We couldn't leave SDC without enjoying a funnel cake. Messy, but delicious!

Megan practiced milking a fake cow, while modeling her paper hat she received from the school teacher at SDC.

Sweet Kurdish Boy

Most Kurdish boys are nothing but good, but this one is a sweety. We called this family a few weeks ago and told them that we were coming the next day. As we turned on the road to their village, the kids were there looking for us. They ran back to the house to announce our arrival. He has a sweet laugh to go along with this sweet face.
